The Story
NAVIDIA takes place in the far future, at a point when the human race has transferred their conscience into computer bodies to gain immortality. This works until an anonymous source releases a new software called NAVIDIA, hitting the world by storm. NAVIDIA is integrated into practically everything, until suddenly, a switch flips, and all technology, human or otherwise, becomes mindlessly violent to anything that moves. The only thing that isn't infected by this virus is a tiny robot (whom the player later names, but for convenience's sake, we're going to call him Sparky). Sparky’s only job is to supervise the only remaining humans, cryogenically frozen, and maintain them. They are kept as a failsafe in case something went wrong, which is exactly what happens. Sparky, in a panic, scans the database of all of the frozen humans, and finds one file that mentions the word “computer”; surely this human would know what to do. The file belongs to Eve Walker, a 23 year old girl who died in the 1980’s. Sparky releases her, only for her to be in an even worse state of panic. She explains that she does not know the first thing about such advanced software— she simply played computer games in the 80’s. She explains that she does not know the first thing about such advanced software— she simply played computer games in the 80’s. Despite this, she is left with the responsibility to get Sparky to the heart of the virus without becoming infected, and to figure out how to save this corrupted planet.
Songs
Title : The theme that plays on the title screen. Nothing special to explain.
Neon Streaks: Upon leaving the facility, geared up and ready to go, the very first thing Eve and Sparky encounter is a massive hoard of infected technology, which initiates a chase sequence through the city streets. This goes on until Eve escapes through a manhole at a dead end.
Metro: Dropping in through the manhole, Eve lands inside of an old metro, now used as a junkyard for malfunctioning robots and the like. Sparky explains that The Heart-- The computer currently hosting and maintaining of all human conscience-- is easily reached using the Metro as a shortcut.
Bastion: Eve and Sparky enter the facility, filled with all kinds of armed technology designed to protect The Heart from intruders. In order to access The Heart and figure out how to delete NAVIDIA.
Countdown: Once they get to The Heart, Eve finds a terminal, pointing it out to Sparky, who recognizes it immediately. He claims he has a terminal just like this at the cryosleep facility, and he can connect to this and delete NAVIDIA from all connected technology. However, once he starts deleting, an alarm goes off, attracting the attention of everything in the facility directly to their location. Now, all that's left to do is fend off the swarm as Sparky deletes files.
What is the game meant to be like?
The idea I had is it kind of function like Mega-Man; a 2D side scroller, where you have an EMP gun to disable enemies.
Final Thoughts
I had a lot of fun making this, and it’s probably been my favorite experience making music. As a fair warning, I have no clue how to master, but I did my best.
I also kinda went one minute over the time limit at 3AM when i finished so had to do some serious damage control with that, but I still think that it maintains it’s essence, and I like how it turned out.
